Stakeholders at the local, state and federal levels agree that a child’s future academic success is dependent on being ready to learn and participate in a successful kindergarten experience.

Yet, defining “readiness” can be a difficult endeavor.

Due to their different prekindergarten education experiences and irregular and episodic development, children enter kindergarten with widely varying skills, knowledge, and levels of preparedness. Parents and teachers also have differing expectations for what children should know and be able to do before starting kindergarten. Furthermore, discussions of readiness do not always include how schools and communities can enhance and support children’s kindergarten readiness, no matter what their socioeconomic status, home language background, or skill level. This policy fact sheet addresses what we know about readiness and how it may be improved.

Our Modern Canteen

The school canteen is a modern boarding facility, that offers lunches not only to pupils and employers, but also to boarders from schools in neighbourhood and to health centres. Every boarder can choose one of three meals, vegetarian meal is always on the list. A substantial soup is offered every day. 2 kinds of salad, as well as fruit and desserts and three kinds of beverages are available. The boarders can choose their meals for the new month on the internet, or using a ordering box. They can cancel their orders in advance in the same way. They use a pre-paid chip for getting their meal. This chip can be bought when paying for the first month. The price of the nonreturnable chip is 130,-. When lost or damaged, it has to be purchased again for the same price. Payment:

Usually within the last three days of the month, the exact date and time is written at the entrance of the school in advance, at the sales point of the office and on the school website.
Furthermore, meals can be paid within other mornings from 7.a.m. to 8. a.m.
The meal for the present day must be bought at least one day in advance.
When paying of collection account or account balance, it is necessary to activate the payment at the canteen office or on the internet, at least one day in advance.
Lunch Nr. 1 is automatically ordered when paying for the meals or by their activation at the canteen office.
Payment can be made in cash at the canteen office, or by collection account of the bank account.

Our Local Students

Due to the high demand for places at the Primary School has designated Churchlands SHS as a local intake area school. Students must therefore live with the school boundaries. Families living within our intake area are invited to enrol their children as local intake students. To see if you live within our local intake area boundary, and a description of our boundaries please click here. To assist the school to determine the student’s eligibility under this enrolment criterion, the following supporting documentation should accompany the application for enrolment:

Proof of ownership of the property by the parent/s where the student usually resides. This will be a rates notices from the local council
Where the family is in a rental property, a copy of the rental agreement. This agreement must be for a period of a minimum of 12months and be with a registered Real Estate Agent. (No Post Office style agreement is accepted)

Applicants must also provide a minimum of 2 further pieces of evidence to confirm their residential address. These may include:

Power accounts
Gas Accounts
Telephone accounts
Current bank statements showing the address
Drivers License
Removalist documents
Any other documents that may support the application as proof of residence

The cafeteria plays a central role in educating and modeling healthy behavior and can serve as a learning lab for nutrition education. Dairy Council of California partners with school nutrition service staff to implement school wellness policies, create healthier lunchrooms and draw links to nutrition education in the classroom and at home. Reflection on Classroom Visit

We were so excited to have an opportunity to visit Anamaria Ralph and Kathryn Powell in the classroom today. We host visitors often and know the value of seeing authentic learning in action. We came prepared to observe, interact, and learn.

The Environment: Child Centred, Reggio Inspired
Immediately after entering their classroom space, I felt calm and drawn into so many areas. Anamaria warned us before coming that her space is small and she had a large group, but truthfully you wouldn’t know it. The space came alive when the children entered. Their natural curiosity and excitement for learning took over the classroom.

The entire room was focused and zoned in on the whole child – from the set up and flow of the space, to the interactions between educators and children, to the schedule and routines. This team has truly reflected about what is best for their children and takes lead from their actions.
